How to Get to Gyeongju (and Around It)

The honest, up-to-date way to reach Gyeongju from Seoul or Busan — and how to move around once you arrive.

By The Silla Table

Gyeongju is easier to reach than most visitors expect. Here is what actually works.

From Seoul

Take the KTX high-speed train to Singyeongju Station. It runs in roughly two hours from Seoul Station. Book a day or two ahead in peak season. From Singyeongju, the old town is a 15-minute taxi or a local bus ride.

From Busan

Busan is close — about 30 minutes by KTX to Singyeongju, or a scenic intercity bus. Gyeongju makes an easy day trip from Busan, though it rewards an overnight stay.

Getting around town

  • On foot & by bike: The historic core around Wolji and the royal tombs is flat and walkable; bike rentals are common.
  • City buses cover the outlying sites like Bulguksa and Seokguram.
  • Taxis are affordable for the temple sites up Tohamsan.

A local tip

Base yourself near the old town, not the station. Everything worth seeing at night — and the best evening light — is in the historic centre.
