The Best Season to Visit Gyeongju
Gyeongju is a different city in each season. Here is what each one offers — and the honest trade-offs.

There is no wrong time to come, but there is a right time for what you want.
Spring (April) — the famous one
For about ten days in early April, cherry blossoms turn the roads around the royal tombs into pale pink tunnels. It is genuinely spectacular and genuinely crowded. Come midweek, start early, and book accommodation well ahead.
Autumn (late October–November) — my quiet favourite
Golden ginkgo, red maple, cool clear light on old stone. Fewer crowds than spring, comfortable walking weather, and the best conditions for evening photography. If you are unsure, choose autumn.
Summer (June–August)
Green and lush, but hot and humid, with a rainy stretch in mid-summer. Early mornings and evenings are lovely; midday is for museums and tea houses.
Winter (December–February)
Cold and stripped-back, but the monuments stand stark and uncrowded. A contemplative season for travellers who prefer stillness.
Whatever the season, the evening light on the monuments is the moment worth planning your day around.
